Phantom Lawyer Episode 12 Recap & Review: When Everything Falls Apart at Once

Phantom Lawyer Episode 12 Recap & Review: When Everything Falls Apart at Once

Episode 12 begins right where emotions should have peaked, but instead, everything slips away. I-rang is on the verge of confessing his feelings to Na-hyun when he suddenly gets possessed again. This time, it’s an energetic young boy who completely disrupts the moment.

What follows is a painful misunderstanding. Trying to piece together what happened, I-rang asks the child if he said anything to Na-hyun. The boy recalls a different encounter, mentioning a woman who looked angry at him. Without realizing the mix-up, I-rang assumes Na-hyun reacted badly to his confession.

That one assumption lingers longer than expected. The next morning, it shows, he’s quiet, distant, and skips breakfast entirely. Meanwhile, Na-hyun is stuck thinking about the unfinished confession, even taking extra care with her appearance before heading to work. Both are clearly affected, just not in the same way.

Back at the office, the boy’s playful nature brings a brief sense of lightness. His excitement, especially around Da-bong, creates a few chaotic but harmless moments. Kyung-hwa handles it calmly, feeding him instead of forcing him out, which adds a subtle warmth to the scene.

From a distance, Na-hyun watches I-rang, still under possession, playing like a child. There’s something soft in the way she looks at him, something that doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s one of those quiet scenes that says more than any direct confession could.

But reality catches up quickly. After an awkward encounter at the playground, I-rang realizes how strange everything must have looked. Embarrassed, he apologizes to Na-hyun, while she worries more about his well-being than the situation itself.

When she carefully brings up what he wanted to say at the park, hoping for clarity, I-rang pulls back. Still convinced she reacted negatively, he denies having anything to confess. It’s a missed moment that leaves both of them quietly disappointed.

At the same time, another thread begins to feel more suspicious. Chairman Yang’s visit to Kyung-hwa’s place seems polite on the surface, but his attempt to look around, especially near the bedroom, suggests there’s something he’s searching for. His curiosity about old case materials only deepens the unease.

The story shifts direction as I-rang focuses on helping the young ghost. A simple item, a golf ball, becomes the starting point of his investigation. At the police station, there’s initially no record of a missing child matching the description.

But almost immediately, that changes.

A distressed mother arrives to report her son missing. Soon after, the boy is identified as Yoon Si-ho. Around the same time, Si-ho’s father appears at the office, asking for a divorce and sharing the painful story behind his son’s disappearance. A series of small, everyday decisions led to a devastating outcome, and the guilt he carries is hard to ignore.

Despite the heavy situation, there are brief moments of warmth. I-rang spends time with Si-ho, even taking him out for pizza. For a short while, Si-ho gets to act like a normal child again, and those scenes feel both comforting and heartbreaking.

The investigation leads to the abandoned GSG golf driving range, a place that immediately feels off. Lieutenant Cho Chi-yeong, who initially appears helpful, soon reveals his true nature.

He is the one behind the kidnapping.

Even more unsettling, there’s another child being held captive, whom Chi-yeong claims as his own. The situation escalates quickly, turning into a violent confrontation. I-rang is overpowered, and when another officer arrives, Chi-yeong manipulates the scene to frame him.

What could have ended there takes a surprising turn. Si-ho, now more aware and determined, steps in. Using quick thinking, he manages to fight back, rescue the other child, and shift the situation just enough to give them a chance to escape.

The escape doesn’t come easily. As I-rang tries to get the rescued child to safety, Chi-yeong regains consciousness and fires his weapon.

I-rang is hit.

Even so, he doesn’t stop. Injured and losing strength, he drives all the way to the hospital, focused on one thing, making sure the child survives. It’s a defining moment, showing exactly who he is at his core.

At the same time, Na-hyun senses that something isn’t right. When she receives a call from the hospital, thanks to the pendant she gave him, the situation becomes real in an instant. Her reaction is immediate, but there’s a quiet shock in the way she processes it.

The episode closes with a moment that feels almost unreal.

Na-hyun arrives at the hospital, only to hear that I-rang didn’t make it. The words land heavily, and her reaction says everything that was left unsaid between them.

But the twist comes in silence.

I-rang is there, just not in the way anyone expected. His spirit watches from the side as Na-hyun breaks down, creating a scene that feels both tragic and unfinished.

With this ending, the story opens up more questions than it answers. If I-rang has truly crossed into the same world as the spirits he once helped, what does that mean for his role moving forward?

There’s still the unresolved mystery surrounding his father, which now feels even more important. And Chairman Yang’s suspicious behavior doesn’t feel like a coincidence anymore, it hints at a deeper connection that hasn’t been revealed yet.

Episode 12 is easily one of the most intense chapters of Phantom Lawyer so far. It moves from light, almost playful moments into something much darker, ending with a twist that changes the direction of the story entirely.

The emotional pacing works well, and the case involving Si-ho adds both tension and heart. However, the decision to push I-rang into this new state is a bold one. It raises the stakes, but also leaves uncertainty about where the story goes next.

For now, it’s an episode that leaves a strong impression, and a lot to think about.
